YOGA
At
Redlands Aikikai
[on vacation 9/10 - 9/23]
Reduce stress, increase flexibility, enhance health, improve concentration, and gain strength with traditional Yoga
A complete experience for the mind, body, and spirit
We currently offer two opportunities for yoga instruction:
· Restorative and Gentle Yoga - in the Evenings
· Yoga for Energy - in the Mornings
(In the future we hope to add a class on Yoga for children if there is enough interest)
Restorative/Gentle Yoga
Basic instruction in yoga suitable for anyone -- with or without prior yoga instruction. The class helps to restore balanced functioning of the body and provides regular yoga practice at an appropriate pace for more advanced practitioners. People with physical weakness or disabilities are welcome to attend.
Restorative Yoga focuses on long, slow deep breathing and the use of props to enable proper body alignment and to encourage the body to relax into the pose for deep opening. We do fewer, rather than more poses, and hold them longer (props come in very handy here), some for as long as 5 minutes. The class includes forward bends, backbends, a twist, a lateral bend, an inversion, a standing pose and a balancing pose. In an hour we may only do 10 or 12 poses, so the class is not fast paced, but is deeply relaxing and a wonderful way to end the day.
Morning Yoga
Morning Yoga involves more movement between poses and provides a more energizing experience to help you though your day. Beginners will feel refreshed and more advanced students will have an opportunity for a more vigorous practice.
Yoga for Children
NOTE: Currently we are not offering Yoga for Children. However, if there is enough interest we will be glad to add a class. Please contact us if you would like such a class!
A fun
and gentle introduction to the movement and postures of yoga, designed just for
children. Each class will improve your child's concentration and will help
to develop and maintain proper
posture and muscle tone. Students from the
ages of five to twelve years are welcome.
About the Instructor
Annalee Gibson has a Certificate of Completion in a Yoga Teacher Training course at California State University, San Bernardino, under the instruction of Dr. Amy Wheeler. A certified Reiki Master, Ms. Gibson has practiced restorative massage therapy continuously since 1994, Classical Ballet since 1987, Pilates™ since 1998 and Yoga since 2001. She brings a deep understanding of postural alignment, natural body movement and optimum health to our school.
About the Tradition
Ms. Gibson's teacher is Professor Amy Wheeler, Ph. D., of Cal State, San Bernardino. Dr. Wheeler is a student of T. K. V. Desikachar of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai, India. Sri Krishnamacharya was one of the greatest yogis of modern times, with students of such renown as his son, Sri Desikachar, as well as Sri B. K. S. Iyengar of Iyengar Yoga and Sri K.. Pattabhi Jois of Ashtanga Yoga. His was a comprehensive school of Yoga, and each of his students came away with those aspects of yoga most suited to their own temperaments and talents. As a result Dr. Wheeler has imbibed the teaching styles of different schools: the unity of Yoga is evident and everyone can find their optimal practice in this teaching method.
